Located in the Texas Panhandle, this “Yellow Rose of Texas” boasts an array of charming attractions, can’t-miss nightlife spots, world-famous restaurants and diverse shopping centers.  Need to see it all in 24 hours? Breakfast at 9:00am!

Start your day at the Pancake Station, a popular breakfast restaurant in Amarillo. It serves up American comfort food. Specialties include Texas-style omelets, Belgian waffles and pancakes. Of course, there are sandwiches, burgers and salads on the menu too. It is a great spot for breakfast which will fill you up for the whole day.

American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame at 10:00am!

Visit the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, one of the premier spot to see in Amarillo. It features the history of the American Quarter Horse, the world’s popular breed of horse through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, artifacts and video presentations. Know about the American Quarter Horse role in racing and ranching, the people who shaped these beautiful animals. From Wall of Honor Plaza to equestrian artwork to bronze statues of important people and horses to vintage chuck wagon to a kid-friendly education gallery, this spot has something of interest for every hippophile.

Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian at 11:00am!

Next, visit the Kwahadi Museum of the American India that showcases the history, culture and life of Pueblo and Plain Indians. The museum includes a Thomas Mails collection, the Cunningham Navajo Rug Collection, the Bob and Sally Jones Indigenous Birds, Tom Knapp fine bronze castings and the Perry Null Game Animal Exhibit. It is filled with photographs, fine art, pottery, carvings, rugs, postcards, bronze statues and artifacts covering the culture and ways of the Plains and Pueblo people. Do not miss the live show from the Kwahadi dancers.

Texas Air and Space Museum at 11:30am!

After a mesmerizing Kwahadi dance performance, make your way over to the Texas Air and Space Museum that features the aviation history of the area. It holds an impressive collection of aircrafts, war planes, spacecrafts, nuclear missiles, airports and rocket boosters. Aircrafts such as a 1930s DC-3, P-51D Mustangs, a NASA Shuttle Training Aircraft, and many more are on display.

Amarillo Museum of Art at 12:00pm!

Take a break from history sessions, and head off to the Amarillo Museum of Art. The museum features art pieces that span all time periods and medias. It has permanent as well as temporay exhibits in its 3-story facility. The collections include prints, American photographs, drawings, Modernists paintings, sculptures and works from Europe and Asia.

Amarillo Botanical Garden at 2:00pm!

After refueling yourself, take a tranquil walk in the diverse natural beauty of Amarillo Botanical Garden.  The Amarillo Botanical Garden has a tropical conservatory which features an indoor collection of exotic tropical plants. There are several outdoor theme plantings also, including xeric, butterfly, Japanese and fragrance gardens. This place is a feast for olfactory senses and the eyes.  It also holds special classes in gardening and horticulture. Connect with nature!

Don Harrington Discovery Center at 3:00pm!

After your peaceful garden experience, head over to the Don Harrington Discovery Center that features interactive and hands-on exhibits on core science, space, technology and natural history. Amarillo is known as the “Helium Capital of the World” and know why it is called so at this center. Inside the center is a planetarium, a Digital space theatre and several science exhibits. Outside is the helium monument. Explore space, sound, science and technology!

Wildcat Bluff Nature Center at 4:00pm!

Just a few minutes’ drive from Amarillo Discovery Center is the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center. It covers over 600-acre natural environment and is popular for the den of bobcats.  It has about 5.3miles of walking and hiking trails, rolling grasslands, wildlife and exciting attractions. It offers access to historic and geological elements and several types of natural habitats.

Cadillac Ranch at 5:00pm!

The next stop is located along Route 66 west of Amarillo- the Cadillac Ranch. It is the first roadside sculpture in the world that has 10 graffiti-covered Cadillac’s half-buried in the ground. Carry your camera and a spray paint to show your creativity on the vintage Cadillac’s.  This is a must see spot when in Amarillo.

Shopping at 6:00pm!

Time to get your fashion fix! Head off to the Westgate Mall that is anchored by JCPenney, Dillard’s and Sears. You’ll find literary anything you’re looking for at this mall, from apparel to accessories, cosmetics, shoes to items for kids and home to boot.

It’s been a long day, but don’t call it a day just yet. There is still something to experience- Amarillo’s nightlife. You wouldn’t want to miss a second of Amarillo’s nightlife scene.
